Roe Park Golf Club Press Report Week Ending 8th April 2018
Hogg wins the Oscar Harper Motors Easter Monday Open at Roe Park
Masters fever swept across the valley last week leading to a massive turnout of golfers at Roe Park Resort keen to emulate Rory McIlroy’s attempt at lifting the much sought after Green Jacket. Although there was no legendary jacket on offer there were plenty of superb prizes provided by sponsor Oscar Harper Motors in the Easter Monday Open Stableford.

Golfers from clubs such as Ballymena, Faughan Valley and Castlerock to name but a few turned out to compete with Roe Parks’ own for a chance of the prizes. Ballymena’s James Carmichael and Roe Park’s very own Shea Hogg (Pictured on the right) fought it out for first place with both shooting 39 points. Shea kept his cool on the back nine scoring 20 points which gave him the victory over James who could only manage 17 points on his back nine. Third place went to Eugene McManus who scored 37 points and Castlerock’s Ivor Lapsley won the gross prize with 27 gross points. The best front nine went to Roe Park’s John McKay who scored 21 points and the best back nine was won by Richard Godfrey from Faughan Valley with 20 points. The nearest the pin prizes went to Kevin Boyd and Charlie Mearns.
Thursday saw a Spring League Club Stableford which was won by Martin Brown who scored an excellent 39 points. Stephen Boyd took the runner-up spot with 37 points and Derek Simpson was third. Saturday saw the first Monthly Medal of the year with amazing prizes once more up for grabs courtesy of sponsors S.J.Mitchell & Co. Victory went to Darren McVeigh who scored a brilliant nett 66. Eamon Brown claimed the runner-up spot with the better nett 67 over third place man Andy Dunn with the same score. Lowest gross prize went to Martin McVeigh who was six over playing of eight. Sundays’ Club Stableford was won by Karl Milligan with 38 points.
The B.G’s Takeaway Spring League entered the halfway stage with last week’s leaders Stephen Boyd, Eamon Brown, Ornie McIlroy and James McGuinness extending their lead. They currently sit top with 232 points over the second placed team of Eamon Barkley, Ryan Scott, Trevor Thompson and Walter Mullan who have 228 points.
Roe Parks’ Irish Fourball team travelled to Clougher Valley to play their first leg match in what turned out to be a good away day for them despite the miserable wet weather they had to endure. They came away with a 3 ½ to 1 ½ lead heading into this Sundays return match at Roe Park.
This coming week sees the B.G’s sponsored Spring League continue with Club Stableford competitions on Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Saturday’s Stableford is sponsored by Limavady Travel.
